Leadership and Legacy

"I was born with
the very devil in me.
I could not help the fact that I was a murderer, no more than the poet can help the inspiration to song, nor the ambition of an intellectual man to be great. The inclination to murder came to
me as naturally as the inspiration to do right comes to the majority
of persons."

H. H. Holmes
The Pinkerton Agency was a private detective agency able to pursue suspects across state lines (Pinkerton). Holmes lead the nation to realize that a national police force was needed to pursue criminals across state lines. Holmes' legacy is that of America's first serial killer, a "Multi-Murderer", who was even believed to have killed people involved in his capture and execution from the grave (Bio).
